AFFORDABLE BUSINESS UNITS SELL OUT IN RECORD TIME
A new developer to the area has reported the phenomenal success of its affordable business units, which have sold out in record time.
ETL Developments released its first phase of properties at Grove Park in Grimethorpe, back in April and in less than two months, all 17 units have been sold.
Barnsley Development Agency assisted the company in finding a location in the area that offered convenient access to all the major road networks. Edward Hirst, along his business partners Tina and Lindy Carter (acronym ETL) have developed a number of industrial units in West Yorkshire, but this is their first venture in Barnsley.
The industrial units ranged from 900 - 2800 sq ft in size and all represented good value for money in a superb location.
“We are delighted with how quickly the units have sold, which has shown how much demand there is for affordable premises in this area,” explains Lindy Carter from ETL Developments. “This is a great location with easy access to all the main South Yorkshire towns. We are planning our next development already in the area – watch this space!”
Shaun Higginbottom from Barnsley Development Agency explains: “Grove Park has all the essential ingredients for a successful development. The units represent good value for money and are within easy access of the motorway and other major road network. Developments such as this one are helping to attract high quality businesses from within and outside of the area, reinforcing Barnsley’s position as a premier place to relocate.”
Barnsley Development Agency offers a full range of business support and advice to both developers and businesses choosing to relocate to Barnsley. These services are provided free of charge, which includes sourcing of premises and providing access to funding.

PHASE II OF HUGELY SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS PARK COMPLETED
Barnsley Development Agency is celebrating the completion and success of the second phase of Wharncliffe Business Park.
Located adjacent to the well established Carlton Industrial Estate, Wharncliffe has been developed by one of the UK’s leading regeneration specialists, Priority Sites, a joint venture company owned by The Royal Bank of Scotland and English Partnerships.
This latest phase of development has provided 11 industrial units ranging from 3,000 sq ft to 6,500 sq ft, plus a 5,000 sq ft bespoke office building, all of which are now occupied.
Andrew Ainsworth from Barnsley Development Agency explains: “It is only by attracting high quality developers to this area that we can encourage regeneration, business growth and enterprise to its full potential. Priority Sites has shown its commitment by investing heavily in high quality construction and the result is that Barnsley now offers some of the highest specification and best located industrial and commercial units in the region.”
One of the major reasons for the site’s success is the flexibility offered by Priority Sites to meet client’s specific requirements, which has resulted in relocations by businesses such as DEB Chartered Accountants and Dantone Precision Engineering.
Priority Sites’ development director Graham Sadler comments: “The whole development has been a winner from the start. By being flexible to client requirements and providing the very highest specification, we have been able to meet the needs of many businesses looking to relocate. The close working partnership we have with Barnsley Development Agency has helped us to demonstrate the many benefits of relocation and it is great to see so many businesses thriving here!”
Barnsley Development Agency worked closely with Priority Sites and agent Chris Rowlands & Co to market the business park and offered business support to companies who chose to relocate here.
Chris Rowlands adds: “It is great news that Barnsley is attracting so many regional businesses. With a further phase of speculative development by Priority Sites at Shortwood Business Park, near junction 36 of the M1 motorway planned to start in summer 2007, we are confident it will replicate the success seen at Wharncliffe.”
Part of Barnsley MBC, Barnsley Development Agency’s Investment & Development Team offers both new and existing businesses locating to the area a friendly and professional service, free of charge.

ACCIDENT REPAIR CENTRE RELOCATES AFTER NEARLY FOUR DECADES
Anyone who has ever driven between Birdwell and Barnsley will have seen the familiar sign of Spray & Bake on Sheffield Road. After 39 years, one of Barnsley"s most famous accident repair centres has decided to relocate to Bromcliffe Business Park in Monk Bretton as part of an exciting new era for the company.
When owner Mick Stringer heard that the company’s existing premises were being sold for development, he saw this as an opportunity to move into larger premises and invested in new equipment to move the business forward.
Bromcliffe Business Park, off Burton Road, provided a convenient location, although Mick was initially concerned they would lose some of the passing trade the company picked up in Birdwell, he is finding that customers are following them to their new Monk Bretton location.
“We’ve put up a sign outside our old premises saying we have moved,” explains Mick Stringer of Spray & Bake. “We didn’t want people thinking we had closed down after all these years, especially when the equipment we have now and the service we offer is better than ever. We are settled in to our new premises now and our existing customers are starting to find us, as well as lots of new ones, it couldn’t be better!”
The company, which provides painting and repair services for cars that have been involved in accidents or that just simply need restoration as well as body realignment services, has invested heavily in a new oven as part of the new regulations regarding water-based paints.
Barnsley Development Agency helped Spray & Bake to find suitable premises and assisted in the relocation.
Shaun Higginbottom from Barnsley Development Agency explains: “Spray & Bake are like a local institution – everyone has seen them or visited them over the years and we were delighted to help them find new premises. They now have an even better location as well as room for expansion and some of the most impressive accident repair facilities in South Yorkshire.”
More and more businesses from out of the area are choosing to relocate here, which is due to the excellent choice of office and industrial accommodation on the doorstep of the major motorway networks, in the centre of the UK.”
Bromcliffe Business Park is already home to over 50 growing businesses, including many that have relocated from other areas in the UK.
